Tandem jump - Equipment
On this page you can find information about the equipment used for your Tandem jumps and equipment worn by instructors for jump. You'll also be able to understand that the equipment used for this purpose is very safe and that we didn’t spare time and money, just wanted to satisfy the criterion of maximum security. Please read below, because we believe that even the biggest skeptics and pessimists after reading, stop to feel that way.
So ... You desided to jump, you want it with all your strength, but are unsure is the equipment safe and that will everything pass all right. Let's assume the worst case scenario for jump. You jump out of a plane and traveling at a tremendous speed towards the ground. At the moment when the instructor needs to open the parachute, the failure occurs. Instructor immediately fainted. Now what? The inevitable death of the most beautiful journey of your life? Of course not. Each parachute system is equipped with two parachutes (main and reserve). In the event of failure of the main parachute, the instructor will open the backup by the procedure. But if THIS is the instructor fainted! Now what? So anything. Also most of the parachute system (a MUST for tandem) equipped with so-called. AAD (Automatic Activation Device), Mark "Cypres". What is his role? Now, we come to the main part. Task "Cypres" is that the prescribed amount (about 600 meters, configurable) if the assessment that the decay rate higher than allowed (as in the above case certainly is), activates the reserve parachute. Maybe not perfectly safe, but you will probably live and uninjured to land unconscious instructor. Although very illusory to talk about this whole situation because story its not in line with science fiction, in fact it is science fiction . So you have an experienced man with hundreds of jumps behind and certified Tandem Master. You have the main parachute. You have a reserve parachute. You have a "Cypres".
That’s more than enough.
NOTE: Please note that this case is utterly fictional, no one ever really had something like that. The "episode"above was written just as the worst case scenario jumps to reassure those who have a shred of doubt about the safety of this system.
So after we determined that the equipment you use to jump is perfectly safe to look and what to wear on the equipment to jump. Equipment used by tandem instructors is:
- The system links wich you and instructor wear , manufacturers' ParAAvis "Spirit Tandem,
- Reserve parachute manufacturers' ParAAvis "Space 336 sq / ft bearing 230 kg,
- The main parachute manufacturers' Icarus Canopies "Tandem 365 sq / ft bearing 230 kg,
- Automatic for opening parachutes "Tandem Cypres"
- Brile (Airborne glasses)
- Soft helmet,
- Gloves.
You still don’t know whether it is enough safe for the secure jump? So let's say that the main dome is sized one-room apartment (about 35 square meters). Purely for the sake of comparison, most of us paratroopers jump from the domes of 10 - 15 square meters. They are jumoing alone but the surface of parachute is even more than 3 times less than parachute that instructor and you have in tandem. And they perfectly safely land on the ground.
Dome (main and reserve parachute)
Parts of the text you read is taken from the website of the main dome of manufacturers that you wear on your jump "Icarus Canopies":
"11 years ago we made a rectangular 11 ZP (Zero Porosity - zero porosity material) tandem. Original Icarus Tandem was sold well even was made before any other manufacturer made ZP tandem. Since then it has made hundreds of elliptical Icarus tandem dome. Parachutes were approved in 1998 by three of the five commission certified tandem, wich control tandem equipment in the U.S.. This is the only parachute that was approved by the Commission, and wasn’t developed in cooperation with customers tandems and business owners.
Our entire philosophy was to produce a parachute with industrial performance. Other producers recommend or even limit the number of jumps to their dome at about 600 jumps. Our goal is to hold 2000 parachute jumps. We have had a lot of "Icarus" tandem even more from 2,000 jumps, and they are still who act on the fly as new. During the test weights we gradually increased weight and speed and eventually threw the weight of 400 kg at a speed of 400 km / hour, equivalent for four-man at full speed. Measuring equipment showed that the total load on the parachute was 4.5 tons. The parachute opened perfectly with no damage. "
So, as you can notice, the safety of the parachute jump which is immeasurable, wich also guarantee manufacturer. In the moment of parachute jump weight will be (depending on your weight) 230 kg in the worst case, at a speed of 200 km / hour, which is half the value of the tested. As far as parachutes, it is also safe to the extent that if the parachute failure occurs, TM will open the parachute after the procedure. The surface of this chute is slightly smaller than the main dome (only 1-2 squares), so in case "God forbid," you will not notice any difference. You probably will not even notice that something has gone wrong at all. And as far as automatic ... This is a remarkable story. It is enough to say that the company that produces it has existed for 10 years in the sport and has a 100% performance. "Cypres" literally never failed.
